St. Mary’s Cathedral (Queen of the Holy Rosary) in Kaluwella, Galle, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galle, established in the late 19th century by Belgian Jesuits. Built under the direction of the first bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Van Reeth, it serves as the center for Catholics in Southern Sri Lanka, having replaced an earlier 18th-century structure.
