St. Teresa of Calcutta was declared a saint in Catholic Church on 4th September 2016. She is the great role model for all of us. Her way of life inspires us to lead a saintly life. The first church dedicated to St Teresa of Calcutta in Sri Lanka is at Thalgaswala of Galle diocese. In the name of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta the construction of this church was started in the year 2010, September 29, by Rev. Fr. Gratian then parish priest and opened 2012, January 24. With the blessings of St Teresa of Calcutta and with the hard work of parishioners and with the financial support of some good souls we could construct this church. Before the construction of this church the Catholics of Thalgaswala did not have a place to celebrate mass. They had the mass at estate store rooms, houses, and under the trees..This church was the substation of Kurudugahahatakma and Udugama. 2016 July 5th this church was raised to the status of Quasi parish, and was handed over to Carmelite Fathers. On feast days a lot of people from all over Sri Lanka are coming to this church. Many miracles are taking place in this holy place. Increasing of pilgrim’s witness to this. In our church we are having the first class relic of ST. Teresa of Calcutta( her holy Blood) for veneration. Every Thursday there is novena mass and every first Thursday there is special prayer service for sick after novena mass. The pond nearby and beautiful tea estates add extra beauty to this church. Sep 2 2018 this church was raised to the status of parish by His Lordship Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe. This church is just twenty kilometers away from Kurudugaha express way entrance on Mapalagama road.
