Caritas SED Galle Distributes Crop Seedlings to Advance Environmental Conservation in Hambantota

HAMBANTOTA, SRI LANKA — June 10, 2026 Under the strategic framework of the OHOB Environmental Conservation Project, a distribution of coconut and mango seedlings was successfully conducted for 44 members of the newly established 2026 Environmental Savings Groups. The initiative, executed under the Long-Term Crop Plantation Programme, took place across the Nagarawewa and Heenbunna village units, which additionally serve the Kariyamaditta village community within the Hambantota and Angunakolapelessa Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

The event was led by Rev.Fr. Michael Rajendram, Director of Caritas SED Galle, and saw active collaboration from key stakeholders, including the Coconut Cultivation Board, the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka, the Agrarian Services Centre, and representatives from the respective Divisional Secretariat Offices. The community initiative was further supported by local Buddhist monks, who extended their spiritual blessings to the program, reinforcing community unity and regional environmental sustainability efforts.
